The PMC training modules are designed to ground the management consultants with the critical skills sets needed to excel in their profession. All applicants would have to go through the appropriate PMC training modules before becoming certified Practising Management Consultants (PMCs). The purpose of these training modules is to close up the gap analysis of the candidates, as identified by the Practising Management Consultant Certification Board (PMC-CB) Review Panel.
There are altogether 10 modules and they are outlined as follows:
All candidates are required to complete two compulsory modules:
Module 1b: Ethics and The Law
This module highlights the difference between ethics and law. The candidates will also learn about the Practising Management Consultant (PMC) Code of Professional Conduct and its importance.
- Remember key articles in the PMC Code of Professional Conduct.
- Learn to assess sample cases of ethical conduct and misconduct.
Module 9: Application for Government Incentives
This module enables the candidates:
- To gain a better understanding of government incentives so as to advise clients on the most optimal ways to tap on the incentives for maximum impact to the consultancy project.
- Ensure a smooth and efficient incentive application process for the client.
Additional module(s) may be assigned to the candidate(s) after assessment by the PMC-CB Review Panel.
Module 1a: Introduction to Management Consultancy
This module expands on the knowledge of :
- Understanding the management consulting frameworks, tools and techniques.
- Learn and share the rewards and pitfalls in management consulting.
- Establish ties with other potential project collaborators.
- Develop or review a Value Proposition for one's management consulting practice.
Module 2: Project Management
This module seeks to identify the challenges that a consultant would face in managing a project, and learn how to develop action plans that can be taken to tackle them.
- Understand the behaviours of a successful consultancy project manager.
- Understand the supportive actions of top-level management that are critical to the success of the project.
- Understand specific things that a consultant project manager needs to be or do on the project.
- Identify phases or components of a management consultancy project.
- Prepare a simple Gantt chart.
- Know the pitfalls in management consulting that could be avoided.
Module 3: Proposal Writing and Project Scoping
This module focusses on how to write effective proposals, conduct preliminary research and understand the tips and pitfalls in crafting proposals.
- Request for the correct and relevant type of information from the prospective client through preliminary research before writing a proposal.
- Understand the crucial aspects in writing a good proposal.
Module 4: Data Gathering and Collation
This module teaches the efficient methods of gathering and collating data as well as having the critical thinking techniques to develop sound conclusions.
- Develop a systematic way of gathering and collating data for management consulting engagements.
- Apply specific tips and techniques in data-gathering through role-playing, exercises and case analysis.
Module 5: Analysis and Recommendations
This module covers the basic principles and techniques in analyzing problems and designing solutions.
- Learn to use new and proven way for arriving at complex decisions.
- Be able to apply basic creative thinking tools and techniques that can result in unique differentiating solutions.
- Be exposed to software that they can use to facilitate analysis and recommendations for their clients.
Module 6: Report Writing
This module will coach the candidates to prepare a comprehensive final report.
- Know when progress and final reports should be submitted.
- Prepare a final report using a suggested sequence and format.
- Become aware of the tips and pitfalls in writing reports.
Module 7: Project Implementation and Completion
This module teaches the tactical guidelines and techniques that can aid implementation while understanding why some recommendations fail to be executed.
- Discuss situations where the consultant need not be involved with the implementation of the recommendations.
- Table down the specific key items that the consultant and client need for “Implementation Day”.
- Understand why culture can the greatest hurdle to implementation and not technology.
- Know the major reasons why some recommendations fail to be implemented.
- Apply key techniques and guidelines that will aid implementation.
- Identify key considerations at completion of project.
Module 8 Client Consultant Relationship
This module shares tips on how to build a successful client-consultant relationship and discover how to prepare an effective review meeting.
- Learn the different clients’ profiles
- To identify the phases of building a good client-consultant relationship.
- To apply critical skills in relationship management with the client.
- Effective use of tips for preparing an effective review meeting.
- Understand key points on how to improve the relationship with the client continuously.
